From the Chair…

The Department of Physics at The University of Texas at Austin offers six degrees in Physics. Its 270 undergraduate majors and 227 graduate students place it among the largest programs in the country. Our undergraduates have gone on to the best graduate programs and our Doctoral students now serve on the faculties of the best universities.

The Department takes pride in the fact that virtually all courses, including introductory and service courses, are taught by Physics faculty; in the overall quality of our teaching, reflected in numerous teaching awards; and in our strong and growing effort in the application of frontier instructional methods, such as inquiry based teaching of elementary physics.

The Department of Physics also administers the Division of Physical Science.
