Strings and Supergravity Theory
Black holes are fundamental objects in gravity, and much effort is
made to understand them. As a candidate for quantum gravity,
String Theory motivates the study of black holes in spacetimes
with extra dimensions. Recently a number of surprising new
solutions for black holes have been found in higher
dimensional gravity. In this talk I explain the background and
motivation for studying these black holes, and I will give an
overview of what is currently known. The goal is to provide a
simple summary of the subfield, the ideas and results as well
as the methods used for finding new solutions."
