Investigating granular length scales using the Central Limit Theorem
We attempt to measure a length scale for correlations among grains in a two-dimensional granular medium.
We partition the space, assigning a volume to each grain in the system. By looking at the distributions of
clusters of N neighboring grains, we can see how they scale with N. We find that they do not scale in a way
compatible with the Central Limit Theorem, indicating that the individual volumes are not independent (i.e.
there is a correlation among grains).
