Cold atoms in optical lattices
A mean field theory, and fluctuations about it, of a superfluid to Mott insulator transition of cold atoms in an optical lattice with and without an effective magenetic field is discussed. For a square lattice in a magnetic field, the phase transition is described by a two order parameter Landau-Ginsburg theory.
