The year 2005 has been designated "The World Year of Physics" by the United
Nations in celebration of the centennial of Einstein's miracle year. In 1905
Einstein produced five papers which are the cornerstone of modern physics.
As part of the celebration, the Department of Physics has decided to initiate
a series of public lectures by leading faculty covering the most recent
developments in our understanding of the physical world.
Professor Steven
Weinberg, Nobel Laureate, will deliver the inaugural lecture of this series
on the 15th of February, at 7:30pm, at the Thompson Conference Center Room 1.110. His talk is titled "Much Ado About Nothing -- How the
Energy of Empty Space Became a Central Concern of Today's Physics and
Cosmology."
