The degree requirements below are based on the 1994-96 Catalog of the University of Texas at Austin and are provided here so that prospective students may obtain an idea of UT's standards and requirements. This listing should NOT be used for a degree check or any other official purpose. Students enrolled in either the B. A. or B. S. program in Physics should always consult an official advisor in RLM 4.101 when planning their schedule or in checking on progress towards graduation.
Bachelor of Arts
General Course Requirements

Fourth semester proficiency in a foreign language
6 hours in U.S. government, including Texas government
6 hours in U.S. history (no more than 3 hours of Texas history)
3 hours each from any two of the following areas:
Anthropology
Economics
Geography
Linguistics
Psychology
Sociology
3 hours in art, drama, music, fine arts, classics, architecture, or philosophy courses (exluding logic)
3 hours in art, drama, music, fine arts, classics, architecture, or philosophy
CH 301, CH 302, and CH 204 (CH 204 waived if student places out of CH 301)
Substantial writing requirement - Two of the courses that you take must be listed as having a "substantial writing component." These can be required courses, i.e., PHY 453, or electives.

At least 15 hours of upper-division physics, including the following:

12 hours of math, of which 6 must be upper-division. 3 hours in differential equations must be included (at UT-M427K).
Second Minor Requirements
6 hours, of which 3 must be upper division, in one of the following:
Botany
Chemistry
Geology
Microbiology
Philosophy
Psychology
Zoology
OR in courses offered in the College of Education or in the College of Engineering
Other General Requirements
A minimum grade point average of 2.0 for all coursework undertaken at The University for a grade
A minimum of a "C" average (2.0) for all major courses
