Links to other useful resources
Here are some useful software, security, and administration resource links. If you have a site that you would like to see listed here, feel free to send us an email.

Local FTP Mirror
ftp://ftp.the.net/
UT has set up this local mirror site of some popular FTP sites for more convenient access. Currently, the following sites are being mirrored:
   CPAN
   ftp.freebsd.org
   ftp.info.apple.com
   ftp.mysql.com
   ftp.netscape.com
   ftp.redhat.com
   ftp.utexas.edu
   ftp.winsite.com

A useful daily news site focusing on the open source BSD operating systems (FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and NetBSD). Also contains plenty of information that non-BSD users and administrators will find useful as well.

Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)
http://www.cert.org/
A good source for security information and updates, covering a wide variety of operating systems. Administrators should consider subscribing to the CERT security bulletin email list for up-to-date bulletins on vulnerabilities and exploits.

Microsoft Security Site
http://www.microsoft.com/security/
Microsoft's security focus site, containing up-to-date information on Windows security issues, including security updates and patches, as well as information on Windows security technologies.

A stable, fast, and secure free UN*X, based on the original BSD UNIX. Runs on Intel x86 systems and the Alpha platform.

Red Hat Linux
http://www.redhat.com/
Red Hat is the Linux distribution used on machines in the Physics department. You can often find the latest news, updates, and downloads on their official web site.

Sun's BigAdmin site
http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/
A site dedicated to system administration (including, but not limited to, Sun systems, of course). For some reason, their site looks a lot like ours, but that is probably just coincidece.

Bull's AIX software site
http://www.rge.com/pub/systems/aix/bull/
A great source for freeware AIX software packages. If you need to download some AIX software, this is the first place to look.
