Re: Grading and posting of cps-data in the homework service (Bulletin #11)

Dear cps/hws user:

This memo concerns those who are currently using cps (classroom performance system), and would like to have their cps-data graded and posted in the homework service.

·        Eric Rostetter of our physics computer group is in charge of the grading code and the posting of the graded cps-record into the homework service. (email address: Eric Jon Rostetter <eric.rostetter@physics.utexas.edu>)

·        To be able to post the graded cps-record in your hw-service account, you need to go to hw-service bulletin 2.7: setup (modify) grading.

§         Add a category: classtalk,

§         abbr: ct, select: man,

§         choose planned number to be greater than total number of classes where you anticipate the use of cps, e.g. 45 for MWF class, 30 for TTh class.

·        Our cps-assistant Bin Zhang (email address: Bin Zhang<ctalk@physics.utexas.edu>) will be monitoring the posting on your hw-service account, through logging into your hw-service account as a student named "stcps..". If you have any concerns on the "classtalk" record posted, please contact Bin. Our cps-support monitors an accurate transfer of the information from lectern computer to the homework service. Any subsequent grade change should be handled by you or your TA.

Presently there are three grading schemes:

#1 Maximum score per class is 1point. Grading: 1 point for attendance/participation (ap), i.e. for any answer recorded.

#2 Maximum score per class is 2points.Grading: 1 point for ap (any answer) and 1 point for any correct answer.

#3 Maximum score per class is 3points. Grading: 2 points for ap (any answer) and 1 point for any correct answer.

In case you would like to use some other scheme, please work with Eric directly.

To assist us to coordinate the initial setup for grading and posting, please complete the following form and emailto: Bin Zhang<ctalk@physics.utexas.edu> and cc a copy to me at chiu@physics.utexas.edu.

1. Instructor name:

2. Hw-service unique number:

3. Grading scheme: (Choose one: #1, #2, #3, or work with Eric)

4. Date of first posting of cps-record of your class:

5. Have you added "classtalk" category (through the use of butten 2.7)?  (Choices: Yes, or no. This entry is meant to remind you to do this step first,  before emailing to Bin. In other words, your answer for this should always be "Yes")

Thank you for your attention,

Charles
