Dear CPS user,
Welcome to another semester's use of the CPS system. For the
benefit of those of you who missed the cps orientation sessions, we would like
to remind you the nitty-gritty information to get you started using cps.
- Homepage:
Please book-mark UT-cps homepage: http://www.ph.utexas.edu/~ctalk/.
Notice that the "bulletin"-link
is at the top of the homepage. For instance this email message is
item #33 on our bulletin.
- First
class: Download student's cps-instructions
(sec I.3 on the homepage). Fill in the classkey of your class,
which can be found in the classdata(spring04) in Sec I.2. Duplicate and
distribute this instruction page with classkey to your class. Each student needs to buy a remote from
UT-coop (a remote from previous semesters works also, except the change of
batteries) and follow the instruction to do the online registration. For
online tech-support see below. Announce to your class the date when you
will begin to use cps ( the second class or the third class are
recommended). See Instructor's
instructions at Sec. I.1 for further details.
- Lectern
instruction (See Sec. I.1 for further details).

- Tech
support: Refer your students to eInstruction (see the toll free number
on student's instruction sheet) for all online cps registration related
questions. Mr. Bin Zhang have left our project. We thank him for his
professional help in the past
year. Our new cps-administrator is
Victoria Mariupolskaya (Vicki). Her office hours are MWF 11-12, TTh
4:30-5:30, RLM10.206. Also
count on the help of Morrie Schulman from CIT who is knowledgeable in most
aspects of cps. We appreciate the support of CIT. Please Refer students to
Tech-support page (Sec. I.4) for more information.
·
Inclass support on first use of cps: In case you need the in-class support
when you first use the cps-system this semester, either Vicki, Morrie Schulman
of CIT or a member from our voluntary team will be glad to visit your class, at
the beginning of the class when you first use of cps. (The visit probably will
last about 10 minutes) Send us your request with the date of first use as soon
as possible.
§
email to: Victoria Mariupolskaya (Vicki)
<ctalk@physics.utexas.edu>
§
and cc: chiu@physics.utexas.edu.
This will help us to coordinate
the support for you. If you would like to avail yourself to be a volunteer to
help your colleague (i.e. volunteer help called for here is restricted to one
10 minutes session), please let us know also.
- Send us your request with the date of
first use as soon as possible. (email to: Victoria Mariupolskaya (Vicki) ctalk@physics.utexas.edu
and cc: chiu@physics.utexas.edu). This will help us to arrange the support for you.
- Your
cps-password and your UTEID: We have created an account at
eInstruction for each cps-user using your cps-password, which you entered
at the time of your signup. For uniformity, later on we plan to change the
user name of each account to the corresponding instructor's UTEID. For
security reason it is advisable to have your cps-password differ from the
password you used for your real UTEID account at UT. Please email Vicki
at ctalk@physics.utexas.edu your UTEID, along with your new cps-password(
i.e. if you want to change it) asap.
With our best wishes,
Charles and Vicki (Victorial Mariupolskaya, CPS administrator)
