The CPS receiver unit plugs into one serial (or communication)
port on the back of the personal computer (PC) running the CPS software and
into a standard AC power outlet. Most computers have 2 serial ports; some have
more or less. Occasionally, a mouse or other navigational accessory already
occupies one of the ports. If that is the case, use the second port.
To make certain that the serial port you plugged into
is the same as the one from which the CPS software is recording, do this:
1.
Connect
the receiver unit (or hub) to a serial port (9-pin COM port) on the back of
your computer. (If you have a USB port instead, contact eInstruction
about purchasing a USB-Serial port adaptor).
2.
Start CPS.
3.
Click the Settings menu item and select Delivery Options.
4.
Click the Detect CPS Receiver button.
5.
CPS automatically searches to find the receiver unit on an
available com port.
If a receiver unit is not found using the automatic
search, the system will provide a manual wizard for finding the CPS receiver
unit(s). You will be positioned back to com 1 and asked to respond with a CPS
response pad. (see image below) If CPS detects a vote
from the CPS response pad, CPS will tell you it found the receiver unit(s). If
not, you will need to select the “Next” button to move to the next available
com port and again press any button on a CPS response pad. You will do this for
each com port until the receiver unit is found. If you are routed through all
available com ports without CPS detecting it you will need to call our tech
support department at 888 707-6819.
The first time you deliver questions and the pads
respond, the receiver unit communicates to the COM port. If you deliver
questions and the receiver unit does not seem to be receiving responses from
the pads, see Troubleshooting
the Response System for
some ideas.
