Q/A pauses |
Breaks the monotony of a straight lecture. |
It helps to emphasize important points. |
It “shifts gears” and further captures students' attention. |
Participation |
Allows all students to participate. Not just the
dominant ones. |
Anonymous input. Helps monitor individual
participation without embarrassment. |
Consider the setup of a “walking dog”, which is
a spool wrapped around by a string. It has an inner radius a and outer
radius b. When the rope is pulled vertically, the spool rolls to the left. |
As the rope is pulled to the right, which
direction will the spool roll? |
Choices |
A
Rolling to the right |
B. Rolling to the left |
Pre-test on lesson: Interactive quiz session |
Interact with neighbors, full class
participation. |
Further capture class attention on the lesson: e.g.
Experiment |
The lesson: |
Linear motion: F=ma. |
Rotation: Rot-force = Rot-mass ´ Rot-acc |
Torque= I ´ angular acceleration |
Torque= force ´ level arm |
Choose
the pivot at the contact point. |
Digression:
à Choose
the pivot at the |
center. Which way will the spool roll? |

Survey results |
Hi-tech’s way to make our teaching more accountable. |
Students’ perspective: Show where he/she stands
with respect to the rest of the class. |
Class record: Computer keeps a record of
classroom participation. This information may be used as a part of
students’ grade. |

class. |
There will be about one-hour wireless orientation
session for instructors and their TAs. |
Instructor’s
class-folder: The wireless-administrator will create a class-folder in the
directory: desktop/mydocument/cpsfiles/ for the instructor to use. |
Student registration |
The
student needs register at the cps- website, for each of his/her class where
the wireless system is used. |
Student’s
input: Classkey & Remote ID |
CPS system returns a response number for
this student in the class. |

CNS-Dean’s office hopes that in the near future,
many instructors in our college who want to use this technology, will be
able to use it. |
The office needs faculty’s input to decide what subset
of CNS rooms should have this technology installed. |
If you
are interested in using this technology in your teaching in classroom which
does not have a wireless system, please contact: |
