A brief overview

After graduating from my high school 'Kant-Gymnasium' in Weil am Rhein I started studying physics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. A year after receiving my Vordiplom I enrolled in the physics department at The University of Texas at Austin where I started working in Mark Raizen's atom optics group. After receiving my M.A. from there I joined the quantum optics group at the Universität Konstanz, Germany. Two years after entering I decided to leave that group and continue my research in Mark Raizen's group. From there I graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Physics. I took up a position in industry, undergoing the transition from Bell Labs to Agere Systems to Triquint. After this tumultuous experience I was ready to focus again on research in the academic environment. After jointly working with Warren Warren in Princeton and Rahim Rizi at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for two years I moved to Durham, where I am now research faculty in the Center for Molecular and Biomolecular Imaging at Duke University.
