Trajectory Simulations

Shown below are some results of various classical trajectory simulations of a gas molecule scattering from a solid surface. The first two frames show the initial conditions with the diatomic molecule above the surface. The third and fourth frames show the temporal history of the height of the two atoms in the molecule. The conditions for the trajectory, incident energy of the gas molecule and surface temperature, are shown on the top of each frame. The gas molecule is nitrogen and the surface is Cu(110).

MPEG movies of these (and other) trajectories are available on request. (They are a bit big for online viewing). Email: gositz@physics.utexas.edu
