The Graduate Computer Lab in RLM 9.326 has been disbanded. The machines have been moved to various places such as the PMCL in RLM 7.306 and the Graduate Lounge in 9.222; a few are now available only via remote login. Any references to RLM 9.326 should be considered out-of-date at this time.
The available systems include a small fleet of GNU/Linux workstations, as well as a duplex laser printer. (Please use two-sided printing, to save paper!) The printer is now located in the Graduate Lounge (RLM 9.222). Each workstation is running X Windows and includes various software packages for your use. If you require a particular application that is not installed on these machines, please contact us to see about getting it set up.
The computers are available 24 hours a day, year-round, unless the power is cut, the RLM network is physically on fire, or other extraordinary conditions prevent access. Some machines may occasionally be unavailable, due to upgrades, maintenance, students in the PMCL tripping over power cords, etc.; any significant planned outages will be announced ahead of time whenever possible.
You can log into any of the systems remotely via SSH (secure shell). An industry-standard SSH client is a built-in component on Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and basically any modern BSD/UNIX-based system; if you are using Windows, you can download a free SSH client from UT’s BevoWare site. You can not log in to departmental machines via TELNET (an old and insecure protocol).
