Lecture 42: (no iq-sessions)

The 4 midterms define the basic physics and applications you should know for the final.

• Go through the physics and the solutions of all questions in 4 midterms. You goal is to be able to work these problems using the course summary (the 2 page formula sheets) as the only help.
• In you have some extra time, please review typical problems comparable to the midterms in

o textbook & class notes,

o homework, and

o PQ library

Today’s review is on selected problems in midterms1 and 2.

Next Monday’s review is on selected problems in midterms 3 and 4.

When you review each problem, please pay attention to the following.

• Understand the problem statement; make a sketch, if appropriate. Determine the “givens” and “to find”.

• Identify the physics principle(s) relevant to the problem. Are there additional nuances involved?
• Outline the logical steps toward solving the problem.

Refine your study habit through reworking problems in the midterms, especially the ones you have missed.

Please consider retaking each of the midterms, especially on those problems you have missed, on your own and follow the 3-steps below.

§ Step1: Go over the midterm materials selected the problems for the retake.

§ Step2: Close your book and your notes. Redo the missed problems using the course summary sheet (formula sheet) as the only help.

§ If you could not do some of them, please repeat step1 and then step 2 until you complete each of the midterms.  

§ Step 3 is the step of self-reflection. Based on the success of your retake, write down a check-list on things you need to pay attention to during your study so that you can do well in the exam.

§ also to answer your physics questions.
