Questionnaire on the use
of MI-course material in teaching Physics 303L, Spring 2011
Please choose one response to each question
below
A. Strongly disagree.
B. Disagree C. Neutral
D. Agree. E. Strongly agree.
Textbook
1. The M&I textbook provides a good
conceptual understanding of physics based on fundamental principles.
2. The material covered in the M&I textbook
is well organized, readable, easily to follow.
WebAssign homework
3. I
think the step-by-step tutorial style of WebAssign problems has more instructional value than
problems which require me to do multiple steps on my own to obtain the answer.
Midterm exams:
4. When I study for a midterm, I study not only
the HW but also other specified course materials, such as clicker
questions, textbook examples, reflection questions, and selected questions at
the back of the chapters.
5. Before each exam the instructor gives three
review sessions. These sessions give an adequate review of the other
specified course materials before the midterm.
6. All problems in the exam are more or less
expected with respect to what has been covered in the unit.
Overview of the course:
7. (Only for students who did NOT take
303K-MI) Even though I did not take 303K-MI, I had no problem transitioning
to the 303L-MI curriculum.
8. (Only for students who did NOT take
303K-MI) Based on my experience with or knowledge of the standard
physics curriculum, my impression is that the M&I physics course compares
favorably to the standard physics course.
9. (Only for students who TOOK 303K-MI) Based
on my experience with or knowledge of the standard physics curriculum, my
impression is that the M&I physics course compares favorably to the
standard physics course.
Discussion Class
10. Visualizing 3D physics on a computer gave me
a "hands on" feel for physical principles in a way that static
pictures and descriptions do not.
11. Computer modeling is a valuable part of an
introductory physics course and should be incorporated in the curriculum
alongside lectures, labs, homework, etc.
12. Of the two following
approaches to a group discussion class, I prefer the first.
I. The way things are now: two problems and two
group presentations.
II. An alternative: three problems with answers
(not solutions) posted online and no group presentations.
Online Office TAs and LAs Hours
13. (Only for students who use or would like to
use office hours) The schedule of online office
hours was more convenient for me than typical morning/afternoon office hours.
14. (Only
for students who use or would like to use office hours)
I would like the above percentage to be:
A: 20% B: 40% C: 60% D: 80% E: 100%
