Present board:
question 23.3.1: the proposed aswer is wrong. the small ball could also be positively charged: Assume it is neutral, then it is attracted by a polarization effect. Now take away a single electron. This will add an infinitessimal repulsive force but the total force will still be attractive (the dipole force due to the polarization is stronger). Thus, you cannot tell the charge of the small ball. In the near-field the dipole force might be stronger than the monopole force.

IQ 28.3.4 - It seems that the answer given for loop equation of CDBC is backwards (signs reversed). For Instance, why does segment CD = +i5R5 when the current through R5 is going from C to D. Wouldn't this equal -i5R5?

kurt

The figures are bad on
at least half of the problems. Look at 26.2.4 as an example of a figure.
The text is displaced from the line drawings, etc. As another point in this
problem, there are a duplication of answers which are identical. regards,
Moore
