Hello there, I hope you didn't stumble on this page by accident. If you did, there's always the back button on your browser (or you can click this to get back to the department website). If you came here on purpose, it's likely that you're either a student of mine or someone who wants to know who I am and what I do. About MeFirst, I'll entertain the curious; I'm a graduate student in the physics department here. I study physics, teach physics, and I might even like physics. When I was an undergraduate, I studied physics and ate ants at the University of California, Irvine. My research interests are centered around General Relativity, and I do research under Prof. Richard Matzner at the Center for Relativity. At the moment, I'm primarily interested topics related to the 3+1 formulation of General Relativity, junction conditions, quasilocal quantities, and boundary terms in the action for General Relativity. I'm also interested in the foundations of classical field theory and the general problem of quantum gravity. When no one is looking, I'll read stuff on the foundations of quantum mechanics. TeachingIn the past, I mainly taught Physics 102M, and for one semester, I taught discussion sections for Physics 303L. Now, I'm an Assistant Instructor for the Division of Physical Science. This spring, I'm teaching Physical Science 303. Here is the link to the course website: http://www.ph.utexas.edu/~jcfeng/teaching/2013-Spring/ PhysicsSeminars:This semester, I'm participating in the following student-run seminars: Advanced Topics in General Relativity Sunday Seminar on Theoretical Physics General Physics Links:How to Learn Math and Physics (Baez) - This is a good place to get an overview of the subjects that physicists study.
A Physics Booklist - This list covers many of the major textbooks that one would encounter in his or her physics education. The Net Advance of Physics - This is a great place to start if you want to find reviews on just about any topic in physics. The arXiv - This is where physicists get their news. Here, you get to see research papers before they're published. The arXiv also provides free access to just about any physics or mathematics paper published within the past 20 years. John Baez's Stuff - If you're bored, you can find some light physics reading material here.
General Relativity Links: A Guide to Relativity Books - This is a list of books on General Relativity. It's a bit out of date now (it doesn't include Sean Carroll's book), but it includes a lot of obscure ones. Living Reviews in Relativity - If you're looking for reviews on topics in General Relativity, you can find them here. arXiv: General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - This is the General Relativity section of the arXiv, for your convenience. Bookmark it. hyperspace@aei - Here is where you get all the General Relativity news you can't find on the arXiv, like conference information, job openings, and awards. UT Center for Relativity - This is the webpage for the UT Center for Relativity. Last modified 01-11-2013 |
