Nanostructures, defined as condensed matter systems with minimum dimension on the order of 1 – 10 nm, have many novel physical properties including structural, electronic, photonic, and magnetic properties that are drastically different from their bulk counter-parts. Over the past few years, the materials research of nanostructures has experienced an explosive growth driven mainly by the promising technological applications of these novel properties.

The research activities of this group have been focused on the nanoscale electronic materials, including thin-film growth, nanoscale characterization of electronic materials, and exploration of novel quantum phenomena. In the past, we have also studied nano-mechanical properties of biological materials and thermoelectric properties of nanostructures.
