PIRA 5D20.60 - Resistivity and Temperature: Conduction in Glass
Instructions / Notes:
- This is a step up transformer.
- The glass tube receives a current supplied from a step-up transformer controlled by a variac.
- Set the variac to 0 Volts and slowly increase the knob to 15 Kilo Volts.
- Please, keep clear of any part of the apparatus above the table top.
- Heat the glass rod with a bunsen burner until the glass glows brightly.
- A neon light will come on as the glass becomes a conductor.
- Remove the burner and conduction is sustained. Grasp only the hose when moving the burner.
- Disconnect the A.C. outlet cord so students are not able to play with the apparatus after each use.
