PIRA 5L30.10 - Filters & Rectifiers: Bridge Rectifier
Photo Shows the Demonstration Apparatus Used by the University
of Texas at Austin.
Instructions / Notes:
- Demonstration includes an osciloscope, goose neck camera and
a rectifier circuit board with the option of adding two LC filters..
- Note: If your oscilloscope skills are rusty stop by a half hour
before class to practice this demo.
- Half wave verses full wave rectification can be shown using the output of
2 diodes verses 4 diodes on the bridge board.
- Diodes are in in the Wheatstone bridge rectifier configuration. Also on the board are
two low pass filters to smooth out the DC ripple.
- Upon connecting to a LC filter students observe a smoother rectified DC signal
compared to the non filtered signal.
- Adjusting the volts per centimeter scale on the scope will show the small voltage ripples
remaining in the DC signal
- The probes from the scope can then be hooked up so that the voltage
signal filtered through two LC filters.
- Plan to come early to practice the demo, if you are unfamiliar with this equipment.
