Text:  Taylor,  Classical Mechanics   [Chapters 1-15]  (Note that Chapter 1 and much of Chapters 3 and 4 are a review of Physics 301, and much of Chapters 5 and  11 were the topic of Physics 315!)

Instructor:  K. Gentle   RLM 12.330  (471-7581)    MWF 11-12

Prerequisites:   Phy 315 and M 427L or M 364K  (If you lack these, please see me immediately.)

Course will generally cover the material in the text, but not all sections of all chapters.

Because the earlier chapters mix old and new material, the order of material will differ from that in the text.

Objectives:

1.  Extend the formalism of mechanics to solve more complex problems and permit the generalization to quantum mechanics and fields.
2.  Continue the development of more sophisticated problem-solving skills, both analytic and numerical.
