Who am I?
Hi! I am Sen Yang, just call me Sen.
I came from China. My hometown is Qingdao (Tsingtao)(Here is a map). Have you ever heard of Tsingtao beer? Qingdao has a beautiful seashore.It is also the center for ocean research. Qingdao was the host of 2008 Olympic Games Sailing and Windsurfing games.
In 1998, I went into Tsinghua University in Beijing and was selected to study in Academic Talent Program. We have strict training in Mathematics and Physics. I did research on theoretical condensed matter physics with Professor Bangfen Zhu in Center for Advanced Study Tsinghua University(CASTU). During the summer of 2001,Mr.Zhai in CASTU and I worked with Professor A.Zee from UCSB in random matrix approach to one dimension quantum hopping. This paper was published in Chinese Physics Letter. I got my Bachelor Degree in Tsinghua University in July 2002. I came to UCSD for graduate school. I studies in Professor Butov's group working on cold quantum exciton gas in 2D semiconductor quantum wells. I got my Ph.D. in 2009.
I have broad interests. Beside science, I read books on history, geography, literature, military, economy, politics, philosophy and art. I like listening classical music. I used to be a computer game fan. I spend most of my Sunday time either hiking or making models at home.
For sports, I like running(because running is the easiest sport in the world). I participated in Beijing International Marathon in 2001 and Terry Fox Marathon for Hope. Also I won medals on chinese martial(Taiji Boxing). I even have a license as a referee of volleyball. Sailing and kayaking are also my favorite sports.
I came to UT Austin in the Fall of 2009 as a Postdoc Fellow in Dr.Shih's group.
