Our Research Projects
Our group studies interactions between electromagnetic waves and matter. That includes laser-plasma and laser-solid interactions, nano-photonics, and plasmonics. We are engaged in experimental, theoretical, and computational work, and we're currently pursuing four major applications: (a) developing high-gradient accelerators of charged particles (table-top colliders!), (b) developing novel ignition concepts in inertial confinement fusion, (c) designing novel nanostructures that will contribute to nanoscale optical imaging and spectroscopy of chemicals and biomolecules, and (d) design of non-reciprocal electromagnetics structures in the microwave and optical regimes (true one-way mirrors!). Both theoretical and experimental work is under way.
