CONSERVATIVE FORCE!

A force is said to be conservative if the work integral for that force, ∫dr, is independent of the path taken. If a specific force Fi is conservative, then and only then can we define a potential energy to keep track of the work done by us against such a force:

Ui(r) = − ∫ Fi · dr.

Typical conservative forces: gravity, spring force.

Typical non-conservative force: friction!
