The Simple Harmonic Oscillator!

The general solution for a simple harmonic oscillator is of the form

x(t) = A cos [ω t + δ].

Damped Oscillator1
Damped Oscillator2

Critical damping occurs for Q = 1/2. If Q is greater we have underdamping, while if Q is smaller we have overdamping.

Coupled Oscillators!

These are harmonic oscillators, but not simple harmonic oscillators. Do you know why?

If a system potential energy has minima, small oscillations around a minimum are excellently approximated by simple harmonic oscillations!
