Reminders:

  • Instructor’s informal session tomorrow. See above for time and place.
  • Wed class (2/13): Begin chapter 27. A simple question on the material covered in the class may be included in midterm 1. However, HW5 will not be included in midterm 1.
  • In view of the fact that next week is the “midterm-week”, HW5 is relatively short.

Preparation for midterm 1:

  • Course summary: It contains the basic formula you need to know.

§         We suggest that you use it as a check-list as you study each chapter.

§         Download page 1 of the course summary, if you have not done it.

§         A fresh course summary will be included in your exam package. It is important for you to get familiar with it prior to the exam.

  • Textbook: Skim through the text. Go through figures and examples (especially the ones related to your homework problems.)
  • Homework problems: Understand the physics of each problem.
  • Consult your class-notes for clarification.
  • Pay special attention to the in-class-review of the unit.
  • Review inclass-test (it) questions.

Midterm exam:   Exam site for midterm 1 is:

  • Advice for taking an exam
  • Advice for exam preparation
  • Calculator which has the capability of storing formula (e.g. graphic calculator) is allowed only after its memory is cleared. (Please show your “memory clearance” to two classmates, when applicable).
  • For current semester, we have adopted no-negative scoring grading policy. This supersedes the negative-scoring-policy discussed the “advice for taking an exam” link.
